On the Big Island, our extended growing season allows for a very long harvest. To ensure the highest quality, we process our nuts several times a month and store them in their shells to optimize freshness until just before they are cracked.

We do not sell raw unprocessed macadamia nuts. Our nuts go through a brief food safety roast. Including our large pieces,  small pieces, and macadamia flour. While these are ideal for baking, many of our customers also enjoy them as a snack. Both versions have their advantages: our minimally processed nuts retain more nutrients and enzymes, which may aid in digestion and have a softer texture, while roasted nuts offer enhanced flavor and a crunchier bite. Ultimately, the best choice depends on your personal preference.

Roasted macadamias are often cooked in oil. Our nuts are dry-roasted without oil, maintaining more of their original flavor and nutrients while making a tasty snack. We offer both plain nuts and a wide array of gourmet flavored dry roasted macadamia nuts.

The cost of macadamia nuts is largely due to the labor that goes into cultivating and harvesting them from trees. The delicate process from tree to roasting requires careful handling and proper storage. On average, macadamia trees take 7-10 years to produce a viable crop and they only grow in specific tropical and subtropical climates. Nuts fall to the ground when they’re ready to be harvested and many are collected by hand. Plus, the shells are extremely hard (requiring specialized machinery to crack).

According to the World Macadamia Organisation, they have the highest level of monounsaturated fats (MUFAs) of all nuts in the form of Omega-9 and Omega-7. Omega-9 is known to reduce inflammation, improve heart function through lowering of ‘bad cholesterol’ levels, and support overall wellness. Research is emerging for the more rare Omega-7 and there are correlations with lower blood sugar levels and healthier insulin responses. It’s not necessary, because macadamia nuts are naturally low in phytic acid content, which some believe inhibits nutrient absorption. Mac nuts contain very low levels of phytic acid compared to most other nuts, making them a highly digestible, nutrient-dense option. Unlike almonds or walnuts, which are high in antinutrients, macadamias are considered low in phytic acid, lectins, and oxalates, allowing for better absorption of essential minerals.

We reuse our mac nut husks and shells to retain moisture, suppress weeds and provide nutrients to our trees. Hawaii provides the ideal climate for the mac nut trees to thrive. No irrigation is required thanks to the rainfall. These ideal growing conditions result in abundant and hearty crops.
